Nomi Baumgartl . "Homage to Creation - Earth and Ocean"
29th March - 22nd April 2008
opening: Friday, 28th March 2008, 6 pm
With her sensitive photographic projects, Nomi Baumgartl takes the beholder on voyages to a special world. People and the mystical relationship between the powers of nature are the major topics of her works.
Her "elephant man" tells the story of the friendship between Chris Gallucci, an unadjusted biker, and timbo, the biggest male African elephant of North America.
Nomi Baumgartl captures the silent but enormous power of this intensive relationship in amazingly suggestive pictures.
An encounter with wild dolphins on Hawaii inspired Nomi Baumgartl to one of her most fascinating photo projects: The deep relationship between man and dolphin. Together with top model Tatjana Patitz and world champions of the international surfing scene, Nomi Baumgartl visualized with her photo art moving above and underwater photographs which uncover this unique dimension, the universal contact between man, animal, and nature in a powerful way.
Aside from worldwide photo journalistic works, she has successfully occupied the world of fashion and advertising. Numerous publications e.g. in "Stern", "Geo", "Vogue", awards and book publications.
A severe accident in 1996 put a sudden end to her international career. However, her survival gave her a new view of life.
Now Nomi Baumgartl, born in 1950 in South Germany, lives in Munich and is ambassador of the organization Dolphin Aid.
