IN the same week that Kate Moss has been proudly announcing her 27 British Vogue covers in an interview; Marc Jacobs too has referenced a legendary image from the Vogue archive.

He stood against the backdrop of Peter Lindbergh's iconic 1990 British Vogue cover, featuring Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington and Tatiana Patitz on Wednesday morning, with an announcement about an upcoming Costume Institute exhibition.

"The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion", which runs from May 6 to August 9, will pay tribute to models through the ages, arranged by decade, from the Forties Dior muses to Versace's Nineties Amazonians. The exhibition launches just after the Costume Institute Gala which Jacobs and Moss will host together on May 4.

"Kate is a muse to many designers," Jacobs told WWD of Vogue's most prolific covergirl - who helped his grunge-look at Perry Ellis in 1993 acquire fashion infamy. He also reiterated the importance of the model to the industry using Yves Saint Laurent's famous quote "A good model can advance fashion by 10 years."
